JK Ranch
Model for maximizing agricultural
sustainability In December 2001, California Rangeland Trust completed this donated easement transaction on a 2,653-acre ranch that will balance cattle grazing and protection of extensive habitat areas with limited vineyard development. The ranch now serves as a model for maximizing the agricultural sustainability of the land by utilizing the best agricultural areas for optimal viability while protecting the vast majority of the property which contains the most important habitats. The JK Ranch project has interest of the local community, which has suffered in recent years from the impact of the trend toward division of large holdings into small, non-productive recreational properties.
